My knight in, not so, shining armor was almost really mine. A few years ago I had a call to come and list a house. When I went over we walked the lot and found something quite remarkable. In the midst of some very thick woods was a surprise to the owner. Now mind you this owner had only owned the property for one month.
What was discovered was a knight. A great big knight. Perhaps this photo will help you grasp the size of this sentry. I think I was giving him a hug.

HUGGING "my" KNIGHT AT LAKE ANNA
I was instantly enamored and fortunately the owner was not. He was moving and didn't care about it. He offered it to me if I wanted to pay to have it moved. My husband, Jim Bleecker, graduated from West Point and they are called the Black Knights. I thought it would be wonderful to have this knight down towards our lakefront protecting our domain.
Then along came a real knight in shining armor...a surveyor. Low and behold we had crossed the line, the property line. The knight was not on this owner's lot. It belonged to the next door neighbor.
When you are out here at Lake Anna it is very important to know your property lines. Local Realtor® understand this. One more reason to give me a call or email me if you are considering a purchase at Lake Anna.

Kate, that's one large knight you're hugging! Great reminder about the importance of property boundaries in a fun post :)
Hi Kate - Did you ever find out why the knight was there? Sure is large!!
That is a great story Kate...sad ending, but great message and lesson
Hi Kate, what an unual find! It's easy to cross the boundaries in areas that aren't in symetrical lots on retangular blocks, I think ---thank goodness for the surveyors!
Oops, that was a close call. Good thing you didn't remove it before the survey!
As for the flagpole we bought at auction - it's going to be a utility pole for one of our "windmills". The old pole got corroded and fell apart, and the poor "windmill" wind generator is just sitting in the garage waiting for a new pole. I think we got a good deal for $110, even if we had to take it down and get it ourselves. When it gets back up I'll take some pics and post it.
