We were very luck to have a wonderful dog named Sam. Sam lived a long and happy life with us here at Lake Anna. What a wonderful thing for her. She moved out of a kennel in a Fredericksburg shelter into a waterfront home on a huge 13,000 acre lake.
As Sam's life began to decline and we learned that she had congestive heart failure we knew tht it was a matter of time and we would have to say good-bye. What would we do then?
I knew that unless I took steps to fill that void before it actually happened it might be too difficult to do it after. I know many pet owners that have said it was too hard once their pet died to replace it. My thought was to make plans in advance which I did.
The decision was made to find a Cockapoo. Our request for a pup from a litter due in April 2009 led to our receiving Lindy into our family. Well, the truth is we did not only get Lindy we also got her brother, Rocky. Double Trouble! Double Fun! Double Love!
Our Lindy
This may not be the answer for everyone but it truly was for us. Do we miss Sam? Do we sometimes talk about her and how much we loved her? Yes!
Are we happy with the two rascals that have us wrapped around their little fingers? (That doesn't quite work, does it?) Nevertheless, the answer is a resounding yes.
You can read about Sam if you would like (and see how Lindy resembles her somewhat) and why we loved her so much.

Congrats on your new puppy. So adorable.
Kate, I think you made the right decision. When we lost our Abby we had said that would be our last dog. Long story short our friend Dundy entered our life two weeks after we lost our Abby.
Dear Kate -
"Double trouble" leads to double fun. Yet no other pet replaces a lost pet. The other pet just opens a different room in one's heart. Or two rooms, in this case ...
Have a happy day -
Lynn
PS I tried Toni Weidman's suggestion to use Google docs for writing my post today. Will have to see how it feels after a couple of tries. Can't decide after one try. L.
Kate, so sorry about you loosing your pup.
Replacing one or adding one to a family soon is a good way to begin the healing.
Oh, Kate, I too think you made a good decision.
I'm having a tough time trying to deal with an aging pet right now. We have an appointment to take him to the vet's tomorrow. I'll fill you in when we find out what's going on...at any rate, he's not doing well and it's a heartbreaker.
Hi Scott...Thanks. We think she is adorable too. I think she knows she's a cutie.
Kate
Hi Marchel...I'm so happy for you that you have Dundy. When we love dogs it is too hard to be without them and there are certainly many dogs that need homes. Even though I am sure you mourned Abby having Dundy brings you happiness and that's a wonderful thing.
Kate
Hi Lynn...Well your comment looks pretty colorful. I tried Google Docs and didn't have any luck. I must have done something wrong so I'll try again.
Yes, it is just like when my second child was born. I didn't love my first any less. My heart expanded. Same with losing Sam and now having Lindy and Rocky.
Kate
Hi Missy...We're happy and so are our pups. Nothing was going to change the fact that Sam was gone.
Kate
Hi Debb...Hopefully you will have better news than you might be expecting but please, please let me know.
Kate
Oh Lindy is so precious and I know that there is a large hole in your heart where Sam lived. I'm so sorry for your loss, Kate. We lost our poochie about 3 years ago and wound up with two as well. And, oh my, there's never a dull moment in my house now! I do miss my Snoopy as you do your Sam but, I am most grateful for these two little boogers that fill our hearts with love each day.
Kate, Pugsley is suffering from heart issues. Right now our vet's trying to reduce the fluids, pressure on his heart, and we will know more a few days. He's such a darling little guy...aren't they all?
Hi Debe...It's amazing how much we love and continue to loved our pets that are gone.
Like you, we are having so much fun with our two. I think they're having fun with us too.
Kate
Hi Debb...Yes, they are all precious but our own are closest to our hearts. I can imagine what you are going through right now with Pugsley. Hopefully the treatment will be able to make a significant difference and you will have much more time together.
Kate
Kate I am so sorry for your loss. Glad you have Lindy and Rocky to help with that pain. My pets mean everything to me so I completely understand.
