WE ARE OFTEN TOLD THAT OUR ATTITUDE WILL MAKE ALL THE DIFFERENCE IN THE WORLD.

WE ARE OFTEN TOLD THAT OUR ATTITUDE WILL MAKE ALL THE DIFFERENCE IN THE WORLD It will determine how well we do in real estate and in other areas of our lives as well.  What are you doing to make sure you have the best attitude possible?

We often read and are told about the many things that are important if we are going to be successful.  Among the things we learn is how important it is to:

  • Be flexible
  • BLOG
  • Keep our web sites fresh and informative
  • Know our markets inside and out
  • Be prepared to discuss real estate at a moment's notice
  • Be current on pending and recently passed legislation on the local, state, and national level and how it may or may not affect our local market
  • Answer all calls and e-mails from clients, prospects, fellow REALTORS® and everyone else as quickly as possible
  • Focus solely on our clients when we are with them (take no phone calls, do not Twitter, etc.)
  • Adhere to our Code of Ethics
  • Remain in contact with prior clients and our sphere of influence
  • Organize our contacts and stay in touch with them (you never know when they will be ready to buy)
  • Keep our names and our faces in front of buyers and sellers in our market area
  • Know the best places to advertise
  • Know the means we used to attract our clients
  • Develop goals both short term and long term
  • Be aware of how we are doing in implementing means to achieve our goals
  • Monitor if we are attaining our goals or hopefully passing them by
  • Be sure to have a budget and are sticking to it
  • Attend not just the required continuing education classes but additional ones as well to be better informed
  • Keep abreast of changes in the financial markets and how it affects real estate

These are just some of the things we need to do.  There are many, many others.  If you would like to add to my list, please feel free to do so in your comment.

However, one of the most important things we need to do in order to be effective at doing all of the others is to be healthy.  That may mean staying healthy or it could mean become healthy.  For this to happen, we need to establish healthy eating, exercise and sufficient rest.

Being sufficiently rested prepares us to forge ahead and to do it with the right attitude.  Remember attitude counts.  People can tell if you like what you are doing or not.

We are inundated with information on the need to exercise and to maintain a healthy diet.  Many of us must also think in terms of how much rest we give ourselves.   Yes, it is a gift that we give ourselves.

Are you getting the rest, and that means down time as well as sleep time, to be equipped to be the best you can be?

Think about it and if you are not taking enough time for this seriously consider giving yourself the time beginning now.  You may find that you become more successful and have a better time doing it than you thought possible.

Hi kathleen,  I agree attitude is 'everything' and you have to have a positive attitude to live life. Things change from on moment to the next. Sometimes not for the better, we have to be strong to live life. it's not easy. With that said, I do believe a possitive attitude will help get you through the tough times. Never give up!

This is one area I definitely need to improve on.  I have never slept well.  I wake up constantly and dream vividly and most mornings, I wake up exhausted.  Not sure what to do about it, but tonight, at 8:30, I put my jammies on and told a client who has a habit of calling me late in the evening that it had been a long day and that if she wanted to counter the offer on her home after waiting for her boyfriend to come home from the gym, she would have to talk to me tomorrow.  I'm that tired!

Kate, I love the list and Yes I do get my 7 to 8 hours of sleep every night.  I would add "Perseverance" to the list!

Kate,

I love this list, being optimistic to make good things happen.  The good news is I always get my sleep.  I do need to eat more healthy and get consistent exercise.  Always something to work on.

All the best, Michelle

I have been consciously working on being positive. It does make a big difference in my day-to-day life.

Hi Patricia...Yes, a positive attitude is necessary.  Getting enough rest (sleep) helps me with that as well.

Hi Susan...Why doesn't it surprise me that you have vivid dreams.  Of course you would.  You live a vivid life!

I'm glad you told your client you were too tired to continue a late call.  Hopefully you'll be up for it first thing tomorrow morning.  Good for you.

Hi Marchel...I agree.  Perserverance needs to be added.  How vital that is.  Without it we would never last in real estate.  We would have given up after the first or second rejection.

Hi Michelle...Absolutely.  Being optimistic helps make things happen.  It makes us more confident and that works.

Exercise is were I fall very short.

Kate ~ without our health, both physical and mental.. we cannot do all of these things.  It is important to find balance.

Kate, you are so right about attitude, and rest.  We really do need to take care of ourselves in order to best take care of others. All day today I was off, just grumpy (which is really not usual for me) so I would add to your list, if you're having an off day - stay off the phone as much as is possible! :-)

1. Create healthy boundaries - I think that would be at the top of my list - it goes hand in hand with 'be healthy' :)

Kate -- You are so right about attitude. I always say think positive and positive things will happen.  It's the law of attraction.  Like attracts like.  Now, about the sleep, you're right again.  I feel and perform so much better when I am rested, which unfortunately isn't all that often...but I try!!  Great list!

Kate, I so enjoyed your blog!  It's energizing, thougtful and spot on.  After more than 3 decades

in real estate, I'm "starting up" in a new town, new state.  I would add, "Schedule Gratitude Time"

I love journaling, expressing thankfulness for where I've been and where I am going and taking

time to pray.  I find it sets the tone for the rest of the day!  Thanks for sharing.
