One of the benefits of living at Lake Anna is that you are in Central Virginia. What is great about that is the fact you are out in the country, enjoying all the wonderful aspects of country living while still close to many of the wonderful things Virginia offers.
Williamsburg happens to be one of those special places in Virginia and it is not that far from the lake. I make the trip often as my daughter and her family live there. From door to door it is about 90 minutes.
It is easy to accomplish even in during a day trip. Allow enough time to visit Colonial Williamsburg and even some time to do a little shopping at the famed Pottery or at the various outlet stores. If you are really giving yourself a treat you can stroll through the specialty shops in the colonial section of town.
On a recent visit to Williamsburg I enjoyed seeing the flowers blossoming by the railroad station and others by the downtown library.
As much as I love visiting Williamsburg it is nice to know I have Lake Anna to come home to when my trip is over.

Hi Kate. Williamsburg is a great colonial town to visit. Oh man, the colors in those flowers are just something else. What photos!!
kate- As I scrolled down through your post the colors just popped out at me. So beautiful are the pictures you took. It was so unexpected and took my breath away!
I took my family there for Christmas one year! We had a great time. It is so beautiful and historic.
Beautiful!! I am a gardner and have just left my garden that I spent 8 years cultivating behind. Now I will begin again and the pleasure will come in discovering new species of flowers and such in my new 'zone'.
p.s. I promise to blog again soon. Just trying to get settled in here and find my voice again amongst all these boxes :)
Kathleen - Wow! Lake Anna in Central Virginia! The picture are awesome! Country living is God country! I know there are still alot of country people who love country living! Again I love the pictures of the area!
Kate - these are beautiful photos! Thanks for sharing them, looks like it was a fun little trip.
These photos just filled my heart with joy. Now it is time to go out and take on the Day! Thanks for a lovely post and learning a little more about the area where you live.
Kate - Aren't pansies beautiful? I think they are one of my favorite flowers... :)
Oh what gorgeous photos. Thank you for sharing them!
Hi Gary...I love Williamsburg. It has been a part of our family for 25 years now. That is when one of my sons began to attend The College of Wiliams and Mary. The following year my daugter followed him there. Tamra still lives in Williamsburg so I get there often and we have lots of family gatherings there.
Of course, I love Virginia. And did I mention Lake Anna???
Kate
Hi Martha...I'm so happy you had that reaction. I must confess...I love my pictures also. I was driving by the railroad station in Wiliamsburg on my way to a theater performance which my granddaughter was in when I spotted the flowers. Quick stop and out came the camera.
Kate
Hi Jim...It really is a lovely spot any season of the year. Christmas is very special there. The decorations are unbelievable.
Glad you had a great time.
Kate
Hi Jennifer...Gardens are hard to leave. They reflect our best parts.
I am sure your garden in Pennsylvania will thrive with love and attention. Just like us.
Why not start a before and after for all of us to see so we can relish in the finished product along with you and Jason?
Kate
Hi Cheryl...I do love it here. Virginia has become my home and I am so thankful to be living here.
Kate
Hi Chris...It was super. We had plenty of mom and daughter time. We sat and watched several movies and enjoyed them all. It was a really kick back and relax time which I appreciated and loved sharing the time with Tamra.
Thanks for your comment on the photos.
Kate
Hi Joan...Bringing you joy brings me happiness!
Kate
Hi Debi...I love pansies also. In Virginia we are able to plant them in the fall as soon as it cools off and they winter over coming into their own in the spring once again.
Is it like that in Missouri? I imagine you are pretty much in our zone.
Kate
Hi Susan...I'm so happy that I have this forum to share my photos.
I love seeing the beautiful ones that others are taking and saring with us. What a treat.
Kate
Lovely flowers, Kate. We just have daffs so far, we are a bit behind you in bloom time. I am really looking forward to fresh flowers in the house again. Love those happy pansies :))
Kathleen, I miss Williamsburg. Beautiful area. I remember the wonderful cobblestone street of Williamsburg and the old pottery factory.
Kate,
Gorgeous! Thank you for sharing these.
