Obrigado is a local restaurant that has become a favorite spot for not only Louisa residents but also many folks at Lake Anna.  Located on Main Street in downtown Louisa across from the County Courthouse it is easy to find and will be hard to forget.  The menu is varied and the food is delicious.

Obrigado is open six days a week, Tuesday through Saturday, from 11:00 - 3:00 and 5:00 to 9:00.  On Sunday they serve brunch from 10:30 to 2.

MARKET REPORT - LAKE ANNA...Water Access Lots SOLD in 2011

There are three counties bordering Lake Anna.  They are Louisa, Spotsylvania, and Orange Counties.  Both Louisa and Spotsylvania encompass the majority of the countryside around Lake Anna while Orange County covers a much smaller section in the northwest area of the lake.  This market report lists the 26 water access lots sold during 2011.

Water access lots are lots located off water.  When we talk about water access lots we are actually including four categories:

1. Water Access with a boat slip
2. Water Access withouut  an assigned boat slip
3. Water View with an assigned boat slip
4. 4.  Water view without an assigned boat slip

Prices generally range from below $20,000 to over one hundred thousand dollars.  Price is naturally based on a number of factors.  They are:

• View of Lake Anna
• Square footage
• With or without assigned boat slip
• Lot condition
• Community amenities (including depth of water at common area/boat slips

Things that do not determine market value:

• Whether it is on the main lake or on the private side
• County location

Of all the types of properties sold at Lake Anna, water access lots without assigned boat sllips are generally the least expensive and have depreciated substantially during the recent recession.

We are so lucky to have a super neat shop close to Lake Anna.  The Fabric Hut and Gift Gallery is full of gift items and this is the perfect time of the year to make a visit.  While there I saw a number of items perfect for others and I know you'll be tempted, as I was, by items that you would like to have too.  There are personal as well as many household items to choose from.

Simply walking inside puts you in the holiday spirit.

One of the nice things about Fabric Hut is the way they display their wares.  It is artfully done and makes it a pleasure to stroll around gazing at one thing after the other.  I had quite a time taking photos.  You will have an equally enjoyable time shopping there. 

Be sure to make Fabric Hut one of your stops while out Christmas shopping.  You may well be able to check a number of presents off your list plus you'll no doubt find a few items that you won't want to resist for youself.

If you live at Lake Anna and are looking for something to do this Saturday evening you might like to consider the Louisa Arts Center for a evening of some diverse, fun music.  In fact I suggest you bring some friends along.  This is bound to be one of those performances where the more the merrier.

There was a time where we had to drive a distance to have this type of entertainment.  It meant off to Fredericksburg, Charolettesville, Richmond, or perhaps someplace else to have a night out on the town.  Now all we need to do is drive to Louisa.

We are indeed very lucky to have a variety of shows to enjoy just minutes away.  Be sure to make the most of it.  Enjoy!

Candidates for the 17th district seat in the Virginia Senate will participate in a debate at the University of Mary Washington. The session will be held Thursday, November 3 in Monroe Hall, Room 116 at 7:30 p.m. and is open to the public without charge.

The debate will present two candidates for the seat: Democratic incumbent Edd Houck, director of corporate and community programs for MediCorp in Fredericksburg and a former educator, and Republican challenger Bryce Reeves, a small business owner and a retired captain from the United States Army. The 17th district includes all of Culpeper, Louisa, Madison, Orange and Spotsylvania Counties and part of Fredericksburg City.

The panelists include Dick Hammerstrom, local news editor of the Free Lance-Star, and Ted Schubel, news director of News/Talk 1230 WFVA-AM. Rosalyn Cooperman, associate professor of political science at UMW, will serve as moderator for the discussions.

The program is sponsored by the university’s Student Government Association Legislative Action Committee and the Kappa Upsilon chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha, the political science scholastic honor society. Temple Grandin to speak on Autism

Best selling author Temple Grandin, Ph.D., will speak on autism and the effect it has had on her life and career.  As a person with high-functioning autism, Dr Grandin is also widely noted for her work in autism advocacy and is the inventor of the hug machine designed to calm hypersensitive persons.  Dr. Grandin is the most accomplished and well-known adult with autism in the world.  HBOas produced the full-length film Temple Grandin.

Dr. Grandin is listed in the 2010 Time 100 list of the 100 most influential people in the world in the category of "Heroes."

We are very fortunate to have someone of Dr.Grandin's caliber in our area to speak about a topic she knows so well and one that affects so many families.
