Food Lion - Lake Anna's One and Only Supermarket

Food Lion - Lake Anna's One and Only Supermarket. Step inside and take a good look. I must admit I was pleasantly surprised when I saw how nice it looked. It has very nice displays and is so clean and neat. What a great addition to our lake living.

Fracking is Becoming Very Prevalent in Colorado...What About in Virginia?

Fracking could have caused the earthquake in Mineral last August according to the United States Geological Survey.  According to the USGS recent earthquakes in Japan, Canada, and the United States were induced by human activity.

It will be interesting to find out if indeed fracking is responsible for our recent earthquake.  An earthquake was one of the last things we would have expected to experience.  Now that we have it is important for the cause to be discovered if that is at all possible.  Learning more about fracking might be one way to find out if that has something to do with it.

Via Belinda Spillman Colorado Real Estate Professional (Cornerstone Homes/Metro Brokers Marina Square):

oilFracking is Becoming Very Prevalent in Colorado

Who would have thought that the oil boom would be coming to Colorado?  More and more major oil companies are setting up shop in Colorado these days and 90 percent of the oil and gas wells drilled in Colorado are hydraulically fractured.  Someone let out a secret that there may be 1.5 million barrels of oil in northeastern Colorado, so the boom begins.

Fracking is not popular among homeowners when the process will be performed within a few miles of their neighborhoods.

I am certainly not an expert in fracking, but to the best of my knowledge, it is a process by which the oil company drills a horizontal well bore which can extend a mile underground.  They then pump in water, sand and a secret chemical ingredient which fractures the area and allows for drilling.

Colorado is looking to require disclosure of the chemicals in fracking fluid before the boom begins.  The oil companies are claiming that the chemical is proprietary and they aren’t eager to disclose.  The nearby homeowners are worried about their water source becoming contaminated.

The oil companies try their best to remove the “flowback” of fracking fluid, but due to absorption, they cannot remove it all.

The oil boom in Colorado will be great for the economy, but at what cost.

I will keep you posted as to the success in getting disclosure on the fracking fluid

Looking for a Fun Evening near Lake Anna this Saturday, November 19, 2011?

If you live at Lake Anna and are looking for something to do this Saturday evening you might like to consider the Louisa Arts Center for a evening of some diverse, fun music.  In fact I suggest you bring some friends along.  This is bound to be one of those performances where the more the merrier.

There was a time where we had to drive a distance to have this type of entertainment.  It meant off to Fredericksburg, Charolettesville, Richmond, or perhaps someplace else to have a night out on the town.  Now all we need to do is drive to Louisa.

We are indeed very lucky to have a variety of shows to enjoy just minutes away.  Be sure to make the most of it.  Enjoy!

Celtibillies  "A masterful work of art that transcends all musical genres."

That's how Bluegrass Unlimited described the music of Celtibillies. Formed in 1994 as a contradance band, Celtibillies began exploring the deep rooted connections between Celtic music and the Appalachian music of their home region of southwest Virginia. Their music expanded beyond dance tunes to include a wide range of traditional Celtic and Appalachian Old-Time music and song as well as original music. The band features Becky Barlow on hammered dulcimer, keyboard and bodhran, Jack Hinshelwood on fiddle, guitar and harmonica, Tim Sauls on banjo, bouzouki, fiddle and guitar, and Jeff Hofmann on bass. Celtibillies performances are a rousing mixture of vocal arrangements and spirited jigs, reels, waltzes, strathspeys, and breakdowns. www.celtibillies.com

Tributes to Dad Are Not Just for Father's Day

Tributes to dad are not just for Father's Day.  Good fathers are there for their children every day of the year whether they can be with them nor not.

I was scrolling through some of my photos this evening and happened upon this one which I had taken some time ago.  I liked it then and I like it now.  I like what it represents.  A time together sharing an experience in a nice spot.  Sure the weather looks less than perfect and yet it looks like they are content to be together. Perhaps this is something they do often or perhaps it is something that they do rarely.  Either way it is fraught with the potential for good memories...even if no fish are caught.

Dad and Sons - photo by Kate Elim, Lake Anna, VA

There is a spot by Dike 3 on Lake Anna that has a parking lot and some great fishing.  You can count on finding fishermen there almost anytime you drive over the dike.  Sometimes there is only one, other times there might be a half dozen or more.  It is a popular spot with the private side of the lake on one side and the main lake on the other.  The parking lot is handy for those that don't have access to the lake and must drive here to enjoy it.  I'm glad it is there.

It is a spot I cross frequently occasionally stopping to talk and/or to take photos.  When I spotted these three I knew it was a shot I wanted.  I like the feeling it generated in me when I saw them together.

I'm not sure if this is a dad with his two sons but it well may be.  And if it is not?  No matter.  Dads are important and so are all of those that "parent" children.

Roses Thrive at Lake Anna, VA

Roses thrive at Lake Anna and this is the time of year that we are blessed to see them blooming all over the place.  As I show homes all around the lake I can't help but take a moment to appreciate the roses I see at many of the properties.

OUR ROSES

Fortunately, we have roses in our own yard.  In spite of the threat of Japanese beetles every year I cannot imagine not having these gorgeous blossoms greeting me as I walk out the door or as I return home.

If you are looking for a wonderful spot to grow your own roses perhaps you'd like to see if Lake Anna is the place for you.

How We Faced the Loss of Our Sweetheart

We were very luck to have a wonderful dog named Sam.  Sam lived a long and happy life with us here at Lake Anna.  What a wonderful thing for her.  She moved out of a kennel in a Fredericksburg shelter into a waterfront home on a huge 13,000 acre lake.

As Sam's life began to decline and we learned that she had congestive heart failure we knew tht it was a matter of time and we would have to say good-bye.  What would we do then?

I knew that unless I took steps to fill that void before it actually happened it might be too difficult to do it after.  I know many pet owners that have said it was too hard once their pet died to replace it.  My thought was to make plans in advance which I did.

The decision was made to find a Cockapoo.  Our request for a pup from a litter due in April 2009 led to our receiving Lindy into our family.  Well, the truth is we did not only get Lindy we also got her brother, Rocky.  Double Trouble! Double Fun! Double Love!

Lindy - Photo by Kate Elim, Lake Anna, VA

Our Lindy

This may not be the answer for everyone but it truly was for us.  Do we miss Sam?  Do we sometimes talk about her and how much we loved her?  Yes!

Are we happy with the two rascals that have us wrapped around their little fingers?  (That doesn't quite work, does it?)  Nevertheless, the answer is a resounding yes.

You can read about Sam if you would like (and see how Lindy resembles her somewhat) and why we loved her so much.

Lake Anna is Growing and so is Dockside Realty

Lake Anna is growing and so is Dockside Realty.   Dockside Realty will be opening its second office shortly.  Dockside is growing right along with the Lake Anna community and as a result Dave MobDockside's Office - photo by Kate Elimerly, Dockside's owner, realized that the time was right to provide clients with another convenient location, this time at New Bridge Landing.

The main office will remain on the shores of Lake Anna, at High Point Marina, where it has been providing exceptional service to clients since 1994.  The new office by Food Lion will handle rentals and sales while the main office, near the 208 Bridge, will continue to offer full service to buyers and sellers.

Dockside Realty has the largest rental department at Lake Anna.  It has grown significantly through the years and handles a wide variety of homes.  The decision to open a new location, especially one at New Bridge Landing, was based on a desire to better meet the needs of both vacation and long term renters.  It will also provide another location for Dockside's REALTORS® to meet and work with those considering the purchase or sale of property.

While work is progressing on construction a date has not been set for the Grand Opening.  All of the agents and staff are excited and looking forward to this event.  Meanwhile many others have stopped by to see what was going on and to share their pleasure at knowing a real estate office will be this handy.

Dockside Realty will be announcing the date for the Grand Opening shortly.

Roaming Lake Anna Roads #2

If you dream about living at a lake, Lake Anna may be the perfect spot for you.  Many have thought so and many more will.  There's much to discover here and it is a fun place to visit and an even better place to live.

On December 1, 2010 I was crossing Dike 3 over the lake and noticed how the setting sun was to my right and to my left the sun was casting a beautiful glow.  The colors of the chairs and the flag were so bright while the sky provided a subtle background.  I knew I needed to try to capture it.  I parked on the other side of the dike, walked back, and snapped a few.

LAKE ANNA, VA

Roaming Lake Anna Roads is a new series of posts with pictures I have taken as I traveled around my neighborhood.  I've said it before and I'll say it again.  Lake Anna is my neighborhood.  All of it!  It surrounds a 17 mile long lake and resides within three counties, covering a lot of territory.

Perhaps it also helps that I've been assisting buyers and sellers with their real estate transactions for 16 years now so I have traveled these roads over and over again.  I never get bored.  I doubt if you would either.

My camera is almost always with me and when it isn't I usually regret it.  Invariably I will see something I want to photograph as I did the day I took this and several other photos.

If you would like to see more photos of Lake Anna they can easily be found on many of my posts about the lake.
