Experienced Blogger? Continue Learning at Active Rain University

Experienced blogger?  Continue learning at Active Rain University.  Yes, no matter how much we know there always seems to be something else we can learn.  That was confirmed for me today when I attended a webinar this afternoon.

ComputerHaving read hundred (thousands?) of blogs written by a very wide spectrum of Active Rain members. I've noticed that some experienced members still have not incorporated pictures, maps, graphs, or videos to enhance the content of their blogs.

There are others that use some of these tools but have not learned that it helps to create margins around them so that they are not smack up against the text.  Others insert a small picture by itself in the middle of empty space.

Using sufficient white space is another trick that some have not used to their advantage.  Instead of running many sentences together consider how to break it up into smaller paragraphs to increase the visual appeal and encourage readers to actually read the content.

A couple of things that I learned today included the recommended word count for a blog.  It is between 300 and 500 words.  Shoot for 400 and you'll have a better chance of the reader actually sticking with your post.

Another thing I learned is how important ranking on page one plays when people are searching for a REALTOR on the Internet.  Those doing a Google search will select one of the top four 80% of the time.  Only 1.25% will go to the last site on that page.  I certainly knew that higher rankings would receive more hits but I never thought it would drop off so dramatically.

There were a couple of other hints that I picked up.  It definitely was worth the time it took.  It also enabled me to know what was covered and how well that was done thanks to Steven Monet.  Now I am very comfortable suggesting that others take the time to attend as well.

I'm even suggesting that you check the Active Rain University Training Schedule to see the array of classes.  I am planning to attend a Webinar tomorrow on Customizing Your ActiveRain Blog with Jeremy Blanton.

In another post I will cover some of the things that will be especially helpful to those new to blogging.  The purpose of this post is to suggest that experienced bloggers may well pick up some tips, just as I did, that will help them improve their posts and perhaps improve their ranking on Google.

Become a student at Active Rain Unversity and share with us the things you learned.
