Lake Anna...There is an URGENT Need for ALL BLOOD TYPES...Please DONATE

Lake Anna Rescue (LARI) is holding a BLOOD DRIVE on January 8th, 2011 from 10:00 - 2:00.

The Goal is to have at least 20 donors.  Ten people have signed up which means at least five more are needed although we urge everyone that can donate to donate.     If we can't get 15 donors we may have to cancel the drive.  If you are still not sure if you want to donate, please read the following from Virginia Blood Service (VBS), they really need your assistance.

This is not a test. VBS has an URGENT need for ALL blood types, all donations --especially platelets.

The inclement weather and the holiday weekend has extremely impacted the community blood supply- which needs replenishing immediately.  Donations are down, while demand remains high from local patients.

Please be sure to keep your appointments for your upcoming blood drive. If you have extra time, consider giving an automated donation like double reds or double platelets. Your blood collection specialists can further explain these procedures.

Donors can be as young as 16 (with parental consent), need to weigh at least 110 pounds, and should feel in good health. Please, if you know someone who is eligible, ask them to donate. The need is constant, and Virginia Blood Services needs donations now more than ever.

Thank you for your help during this critical time.

Reminder:

Virginia Blood Service will be at Lake Anna Rescue Squad

 January 8th, 2011

 10:00a.m. to 2:00p.m

Please call or email me if you are interested in donating blood and please let your family, friends, and neighbors know too.

Thank you for your service and support to our community.

Do You Live in Your HOME or in a PIGGY BANK?

Do You Live in Your HOME or in a PIGGY BANK?

While reading a post by John Mulkey I realized once again what my home means to me.  It is more than an investment.  In fact when we were working with our architect and putting our heart and soul into the plans I never for a second thought about what I should do to make it a better investment.  We were building our home for us.  Now, saying that does not negate the fact that I know there is a finite amount of waterfront at Lake Anna and we are fortunate to have one of those pieces of land.  However, what we were planning to build was our home.  It was exactly that then then and continues to be today.

After 16+ years of living here I still think of it as home.  The value has gone up and the value has gone down but our happiness at being able to call this place home has not changed one bit.

Home

I have sold homes before and I agree that it is very nice to be able to receive more than what one paid.  But sometimes we focus so much on that, that we do not realize first and foremost a home provides us shelter.  It provides us shelter and a place to share with others.  Home is a place to make memories, a place to see the old year out and the new year in.

Make the most of the home you have.  Enjoy it for what it is meant to be, a place to keep you out of the elements, a place to prepare and share meals with others, a refugee from the hectic life outside its walls, a sanctuary where you can bed down at night.

If, when you sell, you realize more than you paid that is simply one more gift your home has provided you.  There have been times in the past that that was a given.  I'm sure those days will be here again at some point.  Until then, appreciate your home.

Remember it is HOME!
